Founder and President
Lauren Moquin
Lauren Moquin is the founder of Tampa Bay Psychedelic, which began as a grassroots Meetup group in 2019. Driven by a deep passion for connecting people, Lauren envisioned a space to educate the community about the transformative potential of psychedelic medicine for mental health, personal growth, and healing. Through the responsible use of psychedelics and the power of peer support, the organization addresses the isolation, depression, anxiety, and addiction that many individuals face. Lauren strongly believes that every community deserves access to high-quality, free, or affordable psychedelic education and peer support to foster understanding, safety, and integration. With extensive training and hands-on experience in psychedelic harm reduction, sitting, and integration, Lauren brings expertise and a compassionate approach to supporting individuals on their healing journeys. Her work continues to inspire and uplift the Tampa Bay community and beyond.

On the outside, I was successful… I retired from the Air Force with 24 years of service. I have over 21 years of experience as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certified Air Traffic Controller (ATC), with five years as ATC Instructor. I’ve developed and presented courses of action to aid the FAA in decisions that affect Air Traffic Controllers throughout FAA and DoD ATC Facilities. I was a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for a 2-year focus group to assess policy change and decision making for the operation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles into the National Airspace System (NAS). I worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as an FAA Crisis Response and Emergency Operations Team Member. I was honored as DoD’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) role model of the year in 2007. I attained a Master of Public Administration (Magna Cum Laude) while in the service. I’ve been stationed around the world; Okinawa Japan, Incirlik Turkey, Brindisi Italy, with two tours in Iraq, 2005 and 2007. I am currently using my GI Bill and have one class left for my Master of Aeronautical Science. On the inside I was disintegrating… The last decade had been a spiral into alcoholism, complex-PTSD, severe depression, high anxiety, and physical ailments, ultimately resulting in five suicide attempts. Since 2011, I have been in 3 rehabs, countless AA meetings, numerous group counseling, ongoing one-on-one counseling, art therapy, and EMDR, to name a few. I tried various medications; naltrexone, Antabuse, antidepressants, anti-anxiety, nightmare meds, sleeping meds, etc. I know what it’s like to have recurring nightmares, flashbacks, overwhelming depression, and anxiety of my time in war. I was in and out of sobriety, never able to hold on to it. I’m what you call in the business, a highly functional alcoholic. A depressed, highly functioning, suicidal alcoholic. And I could not stop drinking. I tried everything, countless attempts, it seemed a never-ending futile story. Again, I was planning my death by the end of the year. A good military friend reached out to me and told me about this program through Vets Exploring Treatment Solutions (VETS). VETS accepted my application. I tried psychedelics. It is the only thing that stopped my dependence on alcohol. I have not had a drink since August 2022. And it wasn’t difficult. My urgent cravings seemed to dissipate. I have literally transformed. I have quit drinking, quit all medications, lost 40 lbs, sleep on a schedule, eat healthier and have not had a suicidal thought in almost two years. I am a believer in psychedelic healing. Why? Because the standard protocol for broken traumatized people is NOT working. Psychedelics work. Mission Complete.
